After DMK treasurer MK Stalin was made the working president of the party, his brother M K Alagiri drew parallels between Stalin and newly appointed general secretary of AIADMK VK Sasikala.
Alagiri who was expelled from the party over differences with Stalin, asked the media if they would question Sasikala’s elevation. Speaking to reporters, he said, “Media does not have guts,” and refused to comment on the elevation of MK Stalin in DMK.
He further said, “What you (media) expected (on Stalin) has happened? What more (can I add)?,” reported The Times of India.
DMK Treasurer and heir apparent MK Stalin was elevated to the post of “Working President” at the party’s General Council meeting in Chennai on Wednesday.
As the elevation of Stalin to his new post required amendment of the DMK by-laws, a special resolution was mooted for this purpose. First, a resolution to amend the by-laws was proposed by RS Bharati, following which a resolution to appoint Stalin to the post of Working President was proposed by party General Secretary K Anbazhagan and seconded by Duraimurugan.
Speaking to members at the meet, Stalin said, “I have been asked to take over as Working President at a time when Kalaignar is ill. So, I am not here to say thanks or feel happy, but just to humbly accept.”
Since 2012-2013, when Stalin began appointing his men to various posts in the state, he had started making sure that he was the political heir. Moreover, the people who stood by Alagiri shifted to Stalin’s side and others vanished. From then on, Stalin has projected himself as the most important person in the party.
