Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi for food poisoning on Sunday, is likely to remain in the hospital for two more days, doctors treating her said on Thursday.
“The health condition of Mrs Sonia Gandhi who was admitted on Sunday, 7th May 2017, for food poisoning is stable. She is progressing well and may be discharged in a day or two,” Dr DS Rana, chairperson of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s board of management, said.
“She still had a slight fever and the doctors want to wait till the fever completely subsides,” Dr Rana added.
This is the second time this year that the 70-year-old leader has been admitted to Ganga Ram. She was last admitted to the hospital in January with complaints of fever and chest congestion.
She has a history of asthma and is usually under the care of chest specialist Dr Arup Basu at Ganga Ram.
Prior to that, Gandhi was admitted twice to the hospital. She also underwent a shoulder reconstruction surgery last year after she collapsed during a rally in Varanasi last August.
