To ensure residents don’t complain about rude and hostile behaviour of the policemen, all police stations (around 300) in Haryana will have ‘Mitra Kaksh’ (friendly room) to offer hassle-free services to the citizens.
The newly appointed director general of police (DGP) BS Sandhu said these friendly rooms will be set up just outside the police stations and are likely to be run by non-police staff.
“Many times people complain that they are not being properly attended by the police. So we have decided to set up these friendly rooms where they will be dealt politely. People can lodge their complaints here and police investigation will follow as usual. These rooms will be helpful especially for those seeking services like character verification, passport verification, etc. For such things, people will no longer need to go inside police stations anymore,” Sandhu said, while adding that they were also going to include soft-spoken skills in training of policemen to make them deal with complainants with empathy.
Special task force to end drug menace
The DGP said the focus of the police will be to end drug menace in the state and make it safer for women. “We will soon set up a special task force to crackdown on drug peddlers. We have already launched Operation Durga to help women feel safe on roads and public transport. At the same time, we will ensure that these drives never become harassing for the common man,” he maintained.
The top cop further said that the state police was going to introduce high-technology initiatives to curb cyber crime. He said the recruitment for around 15,000 posts in the police force will soon be done and for the first time, check the intelligence of the cops besides their physical strength.
On the recent cases of several policemen found stealing electricity, the DGP said the police department will cancel official house allotment to such cops who are found habitual power thieves.
