Where is Justice CS Karnan? Chennai and West Bengal cops search for him

Police searched for him in Chennai and Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.

A day after the Supreme Court ordered six months’ imprisonment to sitting Calcutta HC Judge Justice CS Karnan for contempt of court, a team of police personnel from West Bengal was unable to find him.

Police also searched for him in Chennai and Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.

The team was led by a DGP of Home Guards Ravi Kannojia, ADGP of Armed Police Ranvir Kumar, DIG dipankar Bhattacharya and deputy commissioner C Sudhakar, reported The New Indian Express. They had an hour-long meeting with Chennai City Police Commissioner Karan Singha also. 

Reportedly, Justice Karnan had met the media at the government guesthouse on Tuesday at Chepauk and had parked his official vehicle there which made the officials believe he was staying there. But he left by another vehicle from that place on Wednesday morning.

Around 11am, the Sri Kalahashti temple got a fax that the judge will be visiting the temple by 4pm. Immediately, the temple was crowded with media and police personnel.

Three officers from West Bengal left for Andhra Pradesh with Tamil Nadu team. They went to Sulurpet where they carried out an enquiry and met the police officials. They then went to Tada police station and returned to Chennai.

Sources have told TNIE that the officers are using mobile tracking device with to track the movements of the judge. The officials have sent personnel to all the locations where Karnan could be present.

On Tuesday, Chief Justice J S Khehar said, “We are punishing him for contempt of Indian judiciary as well as judicial process and his act was of greatest nature of contempt,” according to Live Law. 

Earlier, Justice Karnan had sentenced the CJI JS Khehar and six other SC judges to five years of rigorous imprisonment, after finding them guilty under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
