Syllabus for English paper was based on CBSE, Tamil paper was based on state board syllabus.
The controversy around the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) examination in Kerala, where a student was asked to remove her bra for security measures, hasn’t even died down yet when another controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu as the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) allegedly provided two different sets of question papers to candidates who took the exam in English and Tamil, reported The New Indian Express.
The medical students and education experts feel that the whole purpose of having a common entrance test was defeated.
NEET was conducted in 10 regional languages including Tamil, Telegu and Bengali, apart from English, this year.
Some candidates, who appeared for the exam in English,found that their papers were more time consuming and difficult. Medical students also complained that the question papers were based on two different syllabi, reports TNIE.
The syllabus for the English papers was based on CBSE and the Tamil paper was based on the state board syllabus. A student from Udamalpet said that more than 80 % of the syllabus was based on textbooks from the state government.
Moreover, some state board students had to write the examination with English question papers as there was shortage of question papers in Tamil. A student from Tambaram told TNIE that they never knew that both the Tamil and the English versions will have different set of questions based on different syllabus.
G R Ravindranath of the Doctors Association for Social Equality told TNIE that preparing a common merit list after giving questions based on different syllabus, evaluation was unfair.
