New Delhi: In a shocking example of apathy to those who lay down their lives in service of the motherland, a cheque given by Bihar government to a Sukma martyrs family has bounced.
Family members of martyr Constable Ranjeet Kumar had deposited a Rs 5 lakh cheque, given to them by the government as ex-gratia relief, with a bank in Sheikhpura district.
After they made 3-4 rounds to the bank they were told that the cheque can’t be honoured due to insufficient funds in the account.
Slain CRPF constable Ranjeet Kumar was a resident of Phoolchoda village in Sheikhpura. He has left behind two young sons – Satish, 6, and Vikas, 4 – and wife Sunita Devi, and his aged father Indradev Yadav.
The incident has triggered outrage as is being termed as an insult to the martyrs.
Earlier too, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had faced flak for not paying last respects to the Sukma martyrs from Bihar when their bodies arrived at the Patna airport.
It was alleged that when the bodies of five brave soldiers arrived at the airport Nitish was busy watching a movie on Mahatma Gandhi, not very far off from the airport.
Also, not a single minister from his cabinet was at the airport to receive the bodies of the slain brave hearts.
Nitish Kumar later expresses condolence and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of each of the six jawans killed – only for the cheque to get dishonoured.
Reacting to the shocking development, BJP’s Mangal Pandey said, “The CM has no compassion…he didn’t even go to the family of the martyrs.”
