Video shows officers dancing, raining notes on cop in Rajasthan police station

Videos have surfaced on Monday purportedly showing policemen partying at a police station in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur town, dancing and showering banknotes along the beats of sassy folk songs from loudspeakers.

The authenticity of the cell phone clips could not be independently verified. These show a Sunday evening party in which the station house officer of Bharatpur’s Kaman police station is seen dancing in the middle, surrounded by his juniors showering notes on him.

SHO Rakesh Kumar Yadav dismissed the videos, saying no one danced at the police station. “These are rumours, don’t believe them.”

But the videos have gone viral as the party reminded people of Bollywood hit series Dabangg in which actor Salman Khan, playing the hero cop, sings and dances with his colleagues in khaki.

Additional superintendent of police Surendra Kaviya said he was not aware of the incident.

“I will investigate,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the SHO inaugurated a folk dance programme by Asmina Meo, a local artiste, and her team. The programme was hosted at a venue for weddings.

But the district administration cancelled its permission for the cultural programme from May 7 to 25 after complaints. Kaman’s sub-divisional magistrate Virendra Yadav confirmed the latest development.

Several organisations called Meo’s dance routines vulgar.

The district convenor of Bajrang Dal, Rameshwar Bainsla, took out a rally against the programme and handed a memorandum to the tehsildar, Mulchand Luniya, requesting him to stop the performance.

“We cannot allow such obscene and vulgar performances in the land of Krishna,” he said.
