Naxal problem can`t be solved through `silver bullets`: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Monday, expressed confidence that the nation will be able to successfully confront the Naxalites with full force and a new strategy.

Addressing a high-level review meeting with Chief Ministers of ten Left Wing Extremism-hit states, Rajnath said, “Naxal problem cannot be resolved through “silver bullets” or any shortcut but through short-term, medium-term and long- term solutions.”

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, district magistrates and superintendents of police of 35 of the worst-hit Naxalite-affected districts, along with heads of paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies are also attending the meeting.

“Foundation principle of fighting the Left-wing extremism is through financial choking,” he added.

The Home Minister also expressed sadness over the loss of as many as 12,000 lives due to Maoist violence in last 20 years.

“I am sure that attempts to stall development and to throttle democracy at gunpoint will not be successful ever,” he said.

“There is need to depute shadow intelligence officers to track prominent targets associated with Left Wing Extremism (LWE),” he said, adding, “We must ensure that states take the ownership of LWE operations and CAPFs actively cooperating with them.”

Rajnath Singh also raised the need to ensure that the residential camps of security forces should be well equipped with power, water facility and better connectivity.

“The forces on the ground level should not lack leadership. Unity of purpose and Unity of action are essential for success of operations,” he said.

The meeting is being held two weeks after 25 paramilitary personnel were killed by a band of Maoists in Chhattisgarh, will be chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
