Former UP CM Kalyan Singh critical, put on life support, says SGPGI hospital

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh who is admitted at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow is in a critical condition, as per the doctors treating him. He has been on a life-saving support system since yesterday evening, doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, said on Wednesday.

“Former CM Kalyan Singh’s health status is critical. He has been intubated and put on a life-saving support system since yesterday evening. His clinical parameters are being closely monitored by the expert Consultants,” the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences said on Wednesday.

The senior faculty of critical care medicine (CCM), cardiology, nephrology, neurology, and endocrinology are keeping a close watch on all the aspects related to his health, a statement by the hospital read.

SGPGIMS Director R K Dhiman is closely monitoring his treatment on a daily basis, it said.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the hospital on Wednesday to inquire about the health of former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

On Tuesday, Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, met Kalyan Singh, former UP CM, to inquire about his health. Singh in return, asked about the Governor’s well being.

Kalyan Singh, 89, who is also a former governor of Rajasthan, was admitted to the ICU of the hospital on the evening of July 4 due to an infection and reduced consciousness level.

According to reports, Kalyan Singh complained of body swelling. His urea and creatinine levels were also reported to be elevated as per the blood tests. Earlier, he was undergoing treatment at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences.

On July 4, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had visited the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital to check about the former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh’s health conditions.
