An inebriated 32-year-old man in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur climbed atop a 60-feet-tall water tank and threatened to commit suicide if the government did not take avenge the beheading of two Indian soldiers earlier this week.
Police said Raju Singh of Nadbai town in Bharatpur climbed the tank in Gandhi Park under Kotwali police station around 4 pm on Wednesday, but police was informed about it two hours later, sending them and the local administration into a tizzy.
For two hours, police and administration tried to convince him to climb down but in vain. His family also came to the spot and requested him to come down.
It was only around 8 pm, when deputy superintendent of police Abaddan Ratnu and sub-divisional magistrate Pushkar Mittal, reached the park with heavy police force and asked cops to go up the tank to bring him down, that the drama ended.
After he was brought down, he told reporters that he wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take revenge for beheading of soldiers in Kashmir. “If they don’t take any action, I will climb up the tank again and end my life,” he said. Singh said the PM said he will be strict with Pakistan but has not demonstrated that.

Singh works in a private finance company in Bharatpur. His brother, Bhupendra Singh, is a former Army soldier. He said the family was shocked to hear that he was threatening to end his life for justice to soldiers.
Police arrested the man under section 60 of the Rajasthan Police Act (punishment for offences on roads etc. causing obstruction, inconvenience, annoyance, risk, danger or damage to residents) after he was brought down.
He was sent to government district hospital for a medical check-up and was found to be drunk. Police said he was later released on bail.
Tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad have mounted following Monday’s attack, when a rogue Pakistani team killed and beheaded Paramjit Singh, a 42-year-old army officer and 45-year-old Border Security Force constable Prem Sagar.
