Maoists attack armoured vehicle of police personnel in Maharashtra, 15 injured

At least 15 police personnel were injured, three of them seriously, after a mine protected vehicle of the C-60 commandos on Wednesday came under a landmine attack allegedly by Maoists in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.

Officials said the incident took place in the evening near Bhamragad in the district when a patrol party of the C-60 commandos was crossing the area.

Maheshwar Reddy, the additional superintendent of police of Gadchiroli, said the injured were rushed to the nearest civil hospital while three injured jawans were airlifted to Nagpur for treatment.

Reddy said the additional police forces were sent to the area and a massive combing operation was on to flush out the ultra-left activists.

Earlier in the day, a CRPF jawan and two Maharashtra Police personnel were injured in an exchange of fire with the Maoists, the officer said, adding reiforcement was on the way.

On April 24, twenty-five CRPF personnel were killed and six wounded in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, the deadliest attack by the rebels targeting security forces this year.
