As the country grapples with the second wave of COVID-19, various states have imposed curfews and lockdowns and continue to issue fresh restrictions to break the chain of the virus.

The Haryana administration on Thursday (April 22) announced curbs to contain the spread of the virus in the state. Haryana home minster, Anil Vij took to Twitter to make the announcement wherein all shops in the state will remain shut post 6 pm and all non- essential gatherings will also be banned. If one wishes to organise a function, they will have to get permission from the SDM of their area. These new restrictions will come into effect from Friday (April 23).

“All shops will remain closed from 6 PM onward in Haryana from Tomorrow, all non-essential gatherings are banned, anybody holding any function within the prescribed limit will have to seek permission from the concerned SDM,” Anil Vij said in a tweet.

Haryana government had recently capped the number of people allowed in indoor events at 50 and that for open spaces at 200.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday reiterated that the state will not go under a complete lockdown. CM Khattar also said that the state health department was on high alert and adequate health infrastructure was available to treat Covid-19 patients in state’s hospitals.

The minister clarified that Haryana has sufficient oxygen supply and there is no shortage of other COVID-19 related drugs in the state as well.

Speaking on the vaccination, Khattar said that 1,800 vaccination centres have been established in the state and COVID-19 vaccines will soon be available in the open market as well.

This development comes a day after Haryana recorded 9,623 fresh COVID-19 cases and 45 fatalities on Thursday (April 21), the state’s highest single-day spike in both cases and fatalities so far.
