COVID-19 strain: As cases increase, here are new symptoms you should know

The rising COVID-19 cases in India are causing alarm in many quarters. On Thursday (February 25), India reported 16,738 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day increase in cases in the last few months.

With the concerns over the various strains or mutants of coronavirus being the reason behind this spike, people are advised to check for certain new symptoms. It is to be noted that the novel coronavirus generally brings out flu-like symptoms in patients. These may include anything from cold and cough to fever and loss of smell.

Scientists suspect that the new coronavirus strains can attack the body in a different manner and bring forth a new host of symptoms. The experts in the United Kingdom (UK) reported that these newer strains can cause weakness in the patients apart from just a sore throat. The body can feel tired and lethargic as it tries to fight off the coronavirus infection.

According to reports, the new COVID-19 symptoms that have been identified are muscle aches and joint pain, headache, skin rash, sore throat, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, and even discolouration of fingers or toes.

In some cases, the new strains of COVID-19 can cause some neurological symptoms like dizziness and nausea. Reports suggest that many patients are reporting the symptom of excruciating pain in muscles and body.

Those who experience any of these new COVID-19 symptoms are advised to get tested as soon as they develop these symptoms. They should also isolate themselves and avoid participating in public gatherings. If their COVID-19 test report comes positive, they need to follow all the necessary measures for their well-being as well as that of others.

As the COVID-19 cases keep on increasing, the central government has sent multidisciplinary teams to certain states to assist them in implementing adequate measures for coronavirus management.
