New Delhi: An Indian-American CEO of a Silicon Valley start-up who has been captured on video beating up his then wife and abusing her may get away with less than 30 days in prison.
Abhishek Gattani, the co-founder of Cuberon, has pleaded no contest to abusing his ex-wife Neha Rastogi, a former executive at Apple.
The plea agreement means that 38-year-old Gattani will have felony assault charge reduced to avoid the risk of being deported back to India.
Gattani faced second felony domestic violence charge in Santa Clara Superior Court in Palo Alto after Rastogi, his wife of 10 years, recorded the domestic abuses meted out to her, The Daily Beast reported.
In the video clip, recorded by Rastogi in May 17, 2016, Gattani can be heard verbally abusing and hitting her.
Gattani was first arrested in 2013 when a postal worker witnessed him beating up Rastogi outside their home in Sunnyvale, California. The felony charged was later reduced at Rastogi’s request.
In a victim impact statement during Gattani’s scheduled sentencing at Santa Clara Supreme Court, she urged the judge to rethink the punishment.
