Lucknow: Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav may face trouble as Uttar Pradesh police will collect his voice samples for forensic investigation in the IPS officer Amitabh Tahkur threat call case.

A complaint was filed by Thakur in 2015 alleging that Yadav had threatened him over a phone call. Thakur and his wife Nutan had earlier complained the Lokayukta against the then minister Gayatri Prajapti, with proof gathered via a right to information plea, for accruing illegal wealth.

The investigating officer in the case, Dinesh Kumar Singh, on Tuesday presented a report before the Lucknow Chief Judicial Magistrate Sandhya Srivastava saying that due to Assembly polls related duties police could not take any action in the case, but will soon study the recording of the alleged conversation between Yadav and Thakur. Also, Yadav’s voice samples will be collected for forensic investigation. The next date of hearing in the case is April 24.

Thakur had alleged that Hazratganj police had closed the investigation in October 2015 without any proper investigation. However, the final report of Hazratganj police, which had given a clean chit to Yadav, was rejected by the CJM on in August 2016. The CJM had also directed the investigating officer to reopen the case and send the voice samples for forensic investigation. The CJM had also directed the IO to conduct a test on the voice sample in a CD produced by Thakur as evidence. The CJM had pulled up the IO for incomplete investigation.

However, police continued to move a slow pace in the case. According to political analysts, the police may now feel less pressure in the case as Yadav’s party is no more in the power in UP.

Thakur had earlier moved a protest petition stating that it was clear from the police probe that Yadav had called and threatened him.
