Home Minister Amit Shah tests positive for coronavirus, admitted to hospital

In a tweet, Amit Shah said that he’s feeling fine and asked people who have met him in recent days to isolate themselves.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has tested positive for coronavirus. He is the first minister in the Union Cabinet who has tested positive. On Sunday, the Home Minister tweeted that he is being admitted to hospital.
“On getting initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being hospitalised on the advice of doctors. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your tests done,” Amit Shah tweeted.

This development comes on a day India recorded 55,000 new cases on Sunday as the total cases crossed the 17 lakh mark. As many as 853 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit also tested positive for coronavirus and is admitted to Kauvery hospital in Chennai. The hospital confirmed that he is asymptomatic and is stable.
On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh’s cabinet minister for Education Kamal Rani Varun succumbed to COVID-19 at the age of 62, making her the first minister in Uttar Pradesh to die after contracting the virus. Eariler, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had tested positive for coronavirus. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Bhopal.
