Bakrid 2020: Here is how to perform the Eid al-Adha namaz

Eid-ul-Adha or Eid-al-Adha is one of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims all over the world. While people in some countries celebrated Eid on Friday, most parts of India will mark the day on Saturday.

Also called Bakrid in India, Eid-ul-Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, marking the end of the Hajj pilgrimage.

The festival is celebrated to honour the sacrifice made by Ibrahim. According to Islamic scripture, God appeared in the dream of Prophet Ibrahim and ordered him to sacrifice his son Ismail. He obeyed the order but before he could slaughter his own son, God spared him and Angel Jibrael (Gabriel) placed a goat under his knife.

The festival of Bakrid comes nearly 70 days after the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.

This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has marred the Eid celebrations with most places restricting the congregational prayers because of social distancing guidelines,

Normally, people on the occasion greet each other with hugs but this time people are wishing each other — Eid Mubarak — keeping in mind the importance of social distancing to combat the virus.

However, this must not stop us from wishing our near and dears and performing the Eid prayers also known as Salat al-Eid.

How to perform Salat al-Eid prayer?

Firstly, It is to be noted that the prayer is performed in an open congregation, also known as Eid congregational prayer.

Before performing the prayer, you have to perform Ghusl, the washing of the whole boy, following which a ceasing ritual has to be performed (wudhu).

After purifying the body, you are ready for prayer. You begin the prayer by reciting the intention to perform the prayer, also known as niyyat.

Following the Niyyat, Raise your hands in a way that your palms and thumbs are aligned with the shoulders and ears respectively on both sides, and sayTakbir, Allahu Akbar. This posture is known as Takbiratul Ihram.

Then place the right hand over your left while reading the Takbir to offer the Dua Iftitah.

Afterward, give Takbir seven (6+1 arrangement) times Allahu Akbar.

Following that, read the Surah Al-Fatihah

Bi-smi llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm.Al-ḥamdu li-llāhi rabbi l-ʿālamīn.Ar-raḥmāni r-raḥīm.māliki yawmi d-dīn.iyyāka naʿbudu wa-iyyāka nastaʿīn.Ihdinā ṣ-ṣirāṭa l-mustaqīm.ṣirāṭa lladhīna anʿamta ʿalayhim ghayri l-maghḍūbi ʿalayhim wa-lā ḍ-ḍāllīn.

Subsequently, add another Surah to the prayer.
