Hindustan Times bags 3 infographics awards at Malofiej

Hindustan Times has bagged three prestigious digital first awards — one silver and two bronze — on the global platform during the annual Malofiej summit in Pamplona, Spain.

The six-day summit from March 26 to 31 saw Hindustan Times clinch the silver award in the Portfolios category for its ‘2016 – The year in graphics and visuals’.

There was no gold medal winner in this category. Hindustan Times shared its position with FiveThirtyEight, The Washington Post and The New York Times.

HT journalists who worked on this project included Anand Katakam, Piyush Aggarwal, Aparna Alluri, Harry Stevens, Gurman Bhatia and Abhinash Jha. Other contributors from the newsroom included Furquan Siddique, Appu Esthose Suresh, Abhinav Rajput and the photo team.

The Malofiej award is named after Argentinian cartographer Alejandro Malofiej — one of the pioneers of infographic design.

The award honours the best in data visualisation, visual storytelling and information graphics for online and print mediums. This year, 134 news organisations from 31 countries participated. The bulk of the entries came from the US.

Hindustan Times also won a bronze each for two of its features told through data visualisation: “Let Lata Sing”, which featured every Hindi film song by Lata Mangeshkar in her 73-year career, and a six-part investigation into India’s Death Penalty presented through data.
