Pak troops violate ceasefire in Poonch on New Year's Day

Pakistan troops started shelling in Shahpur area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on New Year ‘s Day, targeting Indian positions.

According to The Indian Express, the firing began after a night’s lull at 7.45 am in Dengwar region. A civilian was killed in the region in an hour-long firing on Friday. The firing stopped half an hour after the Indian Army retaliated.

On Friday, the Pakistani Army had indulged in heavy cross-border firing by targeting Indian positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, on a day when the Indian Army chief General Dalbir Singh retired and was replaced by Lt Gen Bipin Rawat. Gen Dalbit Singh visited Kalal, along the LoC in Nowshera sector.

The Indian side retaliated to the firing. One civilian was killed in firing by Pakistani troops along the LoC in Poonch.
