Transporting human organs by aircraft to be hassle-free soon

The SOPs, which have detailed guidelines for transportation of human organs, have been approved by the Health Ministry.

From January, transporting human organs by aircraft won’t be a challenge anymore. In a first-of-its-kind move, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has drafted a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for quick and smooth transportation of human organs.

The SOPs, which have detailed guidelines for transportation of human organs, have been approved by the Health Ministry. BCAS Director-General Kumar Rajesh Chandra said: “The regulations will most likely be implemented from January.” At present, there are no guidelines for transporting organs by air and stakeholders provide assistance on a case-to-case basis.
