India climbs up a spot, moves to 129 in human development index: UNDP report 

As per a report published by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), India has climbed up a spot – from 130 – on the 2019 human development global index. 

At 129, India follows countries like Iraq (120), Indonesia (111), Libya (110), Maldives (104) among other countries.

The report includes a total of 189 nations and the index is topped by Norway followed by Switzerland, Irealand, Germany, Hong Kong and  Australia in the top slots. 

Sudan, Haiti and Afghanistan were placed at the last three spots of the index respectively. 

With respect global powers, Canada secured the 13th spot while the UK and the US stood at number 15 and 16 respectively. 

China came 85th, Russia at the 49th spot.

In South Asia, Pakistan stood at 152, Nepal came 147th and Myanmar secured 145th spot. 

At number 71, Sri Lanka was ahead of most South Asian countries like Bangladesh (135), Bhutan (134).
