Over 1000 job offers made at IIT-M as placement season kicks off, 848 grads accept

A total of 848 students from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) have been placed, as the first phase of campus placements came to an end on December 8. This includes 127 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) and 721 job offers accepted by the students. This is out of a total of 1,016 jobs that were offered by the various companies.

Around 43% of the offers came from companies in the Core, and Research and Development (R&D) sectors.

According to a press statement from IIT-M, Phase 1 of the campus placements started on December 1 in which as many as 1,300 students had registered to grab an employment offer, of which 22% were women. As on December 8, a total of 184 companies made 831 offers to the students for various job profiles during the campus placements. This includes 34 jobs in international positions offered by 17 companies.

PPOs have been offered to 167 students in IIT-M, taking the total number of offers to 998. Apart from this, 18 students from the 2018-19 batch, who had re-registered for the current phase of placements, also received job offers. Thus, a total of 1,016 students of IIT-M have been issued employment offers in India and abroad at the end of the first phase of placements.

The top recruiter who has offered jobs to IIT-M graduates this year, is Micron Technology India Operations, who grabbed 31 students from the campus. Intel offered jobs to 20 students while Microsoft India Private Limited offered jobs to 19 of them. Apart from these, the other top recruiters this season include Tata Consultancy Services, Flipkart, Samsung, Mercedes Benz, Standard Chartered, Axis Bank, Ola, Byjus, Goldman Sachs, American Express, and Mastercard.

Of the 34 international offers, 17 have been offered in Singapore by Micron Technology. Other overseas recruiters who have offered jobs in Phase 1 include ANZ, Cohesity, Deskera, Ebara Corporation, MediaTek, Salesforce, Threesides and Uber.

While companies from Analytics, Finance and Consulting sectors comprised 31% of job offers, Information Technology jobs made up 23% of the total jobs offered.

The second phase of placements is scheduled to take place in the second half of January 2020.
