On Sunday, DMK chief MK Stalin gave Rs 5 lakh to the family of Rajeswari – the Coimbatore road accident victim who lost a leg allegedly due to a flagpole bearing an AIADMK flag. Earlier this month, 30-year-old Rajeswari was run over by a lorry while she was riding her bike, and tried to avoid an AIADMK flagpole erected on the side of the road according to her. Rajasri lost her leg – it had to be amputated at the knee. The accident that raised serious concerns among people, especially after Subhasri’s death in Chennai caused due to a banner erected by an AIADMK politician.
Stalin met Rajeswari’s parents on Sunday and tweeted, “On behalf of the DMK, I provided some financial aid and promised to also help her with the artificial leg. There is not even consolation on behalf of the AIADMK; So much of indifference and arrogance should not be encouraged!”

Speaking to the media, he said, “No case has been filed against the party members, whereas it has been filed against the lorry driver. As the opposition leader, this is what I would like to request this government. She has lost her leg and is yet to recover. The government has to take responsibility. They should take up her treatment costs and should help the family. This, I humbly request.”
Rajeswari is the family’s only breadwinner. Though there are witnesses who have said that she was trying to avoid a flagpole erected by the AIADMK, and lost balance and fell on the road, the FIR registered after her accident says rash driving on the part of the lorry driver. The police have also stated that there is no CCTV footage of the accident despite the spot being a busy stretch on an arterial road in the city.
