‘Why stay?’: Sena MP quits as Union minister amid power tussle with BJP in Maha…

Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant, the lone minister of the Uddhav Thackeray-led party in the Modi government at the Centre, on Monday quit as Union Minister amid political churning in Maharashtra.

Sawant’s resignation came a day after governor BS Koshyari invited the Sena – the second largest party in the state assembly – to form the government following Bharatiya Janata Party’s refusal to form the government on Sunday.

In a tweet on Monday morning, Sawant said, “Shiv Sena’s side is the truth. Why stay in Delhi government in such a false environment? And that is why I am resigning as the Union Minister. In this regard, this morning, at 8.30am. I will be holding a press conference in Delhi.”

The NCP has said it will support the Sena’s bid for power if the regional outfit walks out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and finalises a common minimum programme.
