2nd Test: India reduce South Africa to 36/3 at stumps on Day 2

The Indian bowlers reduced South Africa to a score of 36 for three in the first inning at stumps on the second day of the second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Friday.

At stumps, Anrich Nortje and Theunis de Bruyn were batting at the crease at their respective scores of two and 20.

Earlier, Indian skipper Virat Kohli (254) smashed his seventh double century besides stitching a huge 225-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (91) to guide their side to a first-innings score of 601/5 declared.

# Just two runs off the last five overs. Theunis de Bruyn and Anrich Nortje1 are currently batting at the crease at their respective scores of 20 and one. The South African duo is looking to steady their side’s ship after three early blows, while the Indian bowlers continue to maintain their dominance. South Africa 35/3 (13 overs)

# Nine runs off the last five overs. Kohli continues to stand strong at the crease and is currently batting at 131. Jadeja, on the other hand, got off the mark by flicking the third delivery of the 118th over to deep midwicket. India 389/4  (123 overs)

# CENTURY!! Kohli has brought up his 26th Test ton and first Test century of 2019 off 173 balls. He reached the mark with a boundary on the fourth ball of the 109th over. India 345/3 (109 overs)

# FIFTY!! Ajinkya Rahane (50) has brought up a Test half-century off 141 balls. He reached the mark by nudging the first delivery of 106th over through midwicket for a quick single. India  340/3 (107 overs)

# India added another 14 runs off the last four overs. While Kohli (92) is approaching century, Rahane is nearing his Test fifty. South Africa, on the other hand, need to grab some quick wickets in order to avoid India post big first innings total. India  328/3 (103 overs)

Opener Mayank Agarwal (108) and first drop Cheteshwar Pujara (58) stitched a significant 138-run knock before skipper Virat Kohli notched up an unbeaten half-century to guide India to 273/3 at stumps on Day one of the ongoing Test match against South Africa on Thursday. 

At stumps, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were batting at the crease at their respective scores of 63 and 18. 

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat first on the opening day. 

Opener Rohit Sharma, who marked his debut in a Test match as the opener with twin centuries, was dismissed cheaply for 14 runs before Agarwal smashed yet another ton and Pujara scored a half-century to steady India’s innings on Thursday.

After Agarwal and Pujara’s dismissals, Kohli and Rahane stitched a crucial 75-run knock to put India in a strong position before bad light forced early stumps.

India are currently leading the series against South Africa by 1-0 after registering a crushing 203-run victory in the first Test  at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium,Visakhapatnam.
