DMK Chief MK Stalin on Thursday demanded action against Special Public Prosecutor ML Dhanalakshmi of the Tiruvallur Mahila Court. This, after TNM’s investigation into instances of her allegedly intimidating and threatening victims.
The Leader of Opposition, took to Twitter to ask, “Which law book says that a lawyer who needs to uphold justice should conduct khap panchayat? Since there is nobody to ask and this governent is full of bad people, there is crime everywhere. This is an example of it. Does the Law Minister have the guts to take action?”

On Thursday, TNM reported that shocking allegations have emerged against the Special Public Prosecutor who has been accused of threatening child sexual abuse victims and their families to drop cases against the accused. Two families from Tiruvallur district have said that Dhanalakshmi ML of the District Mahila Court – who was assigned to represent them – has sided with the accused instead, and on one occasion, even put the minor victim in the same room as her alleged rapist and threatened her.
The families have already approached the Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police with complaints against Dhanalakshmi.
The family of a child with speech impairment and learning disabilities, who was sexually assaulted in 2015, approached the police on Monday. On Tuesday, a victim who was raped as a minor and is now 20 years old, also approached the police with complaints against the same Public Prosecutor.
The 20-year-old victim was allegedly told to either marry or take money from her rapist, by the prosecutor. When she refused, she says Dhanalakshmi warned her that she will not be able to win the case. In the other case, the father of a girl with learning disability who filed a complaint of rape, alleged that the perpetrator had been acquitted due to the prosecution’s interference
And while the public prosecutor has denied the allegations, lawyers from the Tiruvallur Bar association have alleged that she is corrupt. Advocates from across the district even protests against her in July but say no action was taken by the Collector because she is a political appointee.
