NEET impersonation scam: Another TN student and his father called in for inquiry

A first-year student from a reputed private institute in Tamil Nadu and his father have been called in for inquiry by the CB CID based on recent information uncovered in the Theni NEET impersonation case. The police have found that Rasheed, the broker who was involved in the Theni case, is involved here too. An imposter had written the exam for this student in Delhi. Further investigations are expected to reveal more details.

The Ongoing CB CID investigations into the NEET impersonation case in Theni district has exposed a larger racket in the state, where undeserving students had used impostors to clear the entrance test and secure a medical seat.

The racket was exposed this week, after the Dean of the Theni Medical College found discrepancies in the NEET and college admission photos of a student named Udit Surya from Chennai. On Thursday, Udit and his father Dr Venkatesan, who works at the Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital in Chennai, admitted to the malpractice while being interrogated by the CB CID. The broker allegedly told Dr Venkatesan that a medical seat can be secured if he was ready to cough up Rs 20 lakh. The father would have to pay a lakh before the exam and the rest of the amount once the impersonator passes the entrance test.

Udit and his parents were arrested by the CB CID from Tirupati after they went missing from their Chennai house. The case was earlier investigated by the Tamil Nadu police with whom the Dean of Theni Medical College had filed a complaint after the internal probe. Based on the report submitted by the dean on the probe to the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), the DME ordered the dean to approach the police.

The case was then transferred to the CB CID on Monday. Based on a tip-off about Udit’s whereabouts, the police rushed to Tirupati and apprehended the family from near a bus stand.
