India on Tuesday strongly rebutted Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad who claimed that New Delhi had neither insisted on extradition of the controversial televangelist Zakir Naik nor was this point raised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the meeting of the two leaders earlier this month.
“Let me make it very clear for the record. We want Zakir Naik back and that is what we are working on,” Foreign Minister S Jaishankar told reporters on Tuesday. Jaishankar also said the expectation that the controversial Islamic preacher should be extradited was communicated at the meeting of the two leaders earlier this month.
