Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be cremated on Sunday afternoon at the Nigambodh Ghat, BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal said.

Jaitley died of multi-organ failure at New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Saturday, a fortnight after he was hospitalized complaining of uneasiness. He was 66.

Last rites of Arun Jaitley to take place at 2:30 pm

Arun Jaitley’s body will be kept at the BJP headquarters in Delhi today between 10:30 am and 1 pm where party workers and leaders will pay tributes.

The BJP said in a tweet that the last rites will take place at Nigambodh Ghat at 2:30 pm.

PM Modi grieves Arun Jaitley’s demise during Bahrain trip

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid an emotional tribute to former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, describing him as a dear friend with whom he had traversed the long journey from their student days together and later in political life.

Addressing the Indian diaspora at the Bahrain National Stadium, Prime Minister Modi said he was tied down by responsibility due to which though he is steeped in grief, he has to carry on with his duties.

Arun Jaitley was admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) of the Cardiothoracic Neurosciences Centre at AIIMS on August 9. His condition had been critical and he was being treated by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists from the departments of cardiology, endocrinology, pulmonology and nephrology, among others.

Within an hour of the announcement of his death, the hospital was thronged by Arun Jaitley’s family, friends and well-wishers.

Those who visited the hospital included finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of state at the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh, BJP working president JP Nadda, member of parliament Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, senior cardiologist Naresh Trehan and senior advocate Pinky Anand, among others.
