Sasikala enjoys no special facility in jail, no application to transfer her to Chennai: RTI

A RTI application filed by a Chennai-based advocate MP Rajavelayutham has revealed that AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala convicted in the DA case does not enjoy any special facility at the Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru.

The RTI reply also revealed that there has been no step taken to transfer VK Sasikala to the Central Prison in Tamil Nadu or any other prison in the country.

The Chief Superintendent of the prison said that no additional facilities like a cot, mattress, radio, fan/air conditioner, water heater and a separate bathroom have been provided to Sasikala.

The jail authorities said that other than TV, Sasikala was not given any other facility.

Rajavelayutham asked the jail authorities if Sasikala’s nephew and party Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran, a former MP, was allowed to meet Sasikala. In his reply, the chief superintendent said he was allowed to meet for 35-40 minutes and added that every prisoner was allowed to meet their visitors.

VK Sasikala surrendered before a Karnataka special court set up within the jail premises on February 15, a day after the Supreme Court re-instated the lower court judgement in the DA case. This meant that she had to serve the remainder of her four-year jail term. She has already served 35 days in prison.

Sasikala was given a B-class prisoner status by the judge despite her counsel seeking Class-1 facilities and other privileges of home-cooked food, private television, non-vegetarian food twice a week.

According to reports, she has been given a fan, a blanket, a pillow and three white sarees along with blouses to wear.

She has been asked to make candles or agarbathis during her stay in prison, and will be given Rs 50 per day as wages.
