Mumbai Hospital Staffer Meets Obese Policeman Who Was Fatshamed by Shobhaa De

Neemuch (MP): A staffer of Mumbai-based Centre for Obesity and Digestive Surgery on Saturday met Madhya Pradesh Police Inspector Daulatram Jogewat, at whom columnist Shobhaa De had poked fun over his obese physical condition in a tweet early this week.

After meeting Jogewat (58), the administrative director of the Centre Flyod D’ Souza said that the Inspector needs to undergo a thorough medical check-up and tests at their Mumbai-based centre.

“After the tests, a medical expert will take a call whether he should be administered medicine or operated upon,” D’ Souza who was sent to Madhya Pradesh by Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, an obesity surgeon and a laparoscopic expert said.

Jogewat said that he will be overwhelmed with joy if he sheds weight and is fit again. He said that a top police official has also advised him to get operated at Sri Aurobindo Hospital in Indore free of cost.

On the other hand, the district Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh said that the state government runs a police welfare board. If needed, the Board will make finance available for the Inspector’s treatment.

Two days ago, Daulatram had expressed displeasure over columnist Shobhaa De’s tweet about his obesity, which he said was because of a hormonal disorder.

“I am hurt with Shobhaa De’s tweet poking fun at me. I have put on weight due to hormonal disorder following my gall bladder operation in 1993,” Inspector Jogewat, who weighs around 180 kg, had said.

De had posted the image on February 21 after the polling for the Mumbai civic body ended amid a heavy police bandobast.

We love puns too Ms De but this one is totally imisplaced. Uniform/official not ours. We expect better from responsible citizens like you. https://t.co/OcKOoHO5bX

“Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today,” the socialite had tweeted while posting the image, and incorrectly identified Jogewat as a personnel of the Mumbai Police who was deployed for the BMC polls held on Tuesday.

As her tweet went viral, De got trolled by netizens. Hitting back at her, the Mumbai Police had tweeted, “We love puns too Ms De. but, this one is totally misplaced. uniform/official not ours. We expect better from response.”

However, in an attempt to make peace, De had yesterday posted a fresh tweet: “Mumbai/ Maharashtra Police Pranaam. No offence intended. M.P. Police, Consult a dietician, if it’s an asli, undoctored image doing the round.”

De had in the past also courted controversies following her tweets. Her comments about poor performance of the Indian sportsmen in the 2016 Olympics had met with a severe backlash.
