Cyclone Vayu has drained away all the moisture that would have brought monsoon to Telangana on June 12. The state should now expect monsoon to arrive only by June 19, says the Hyderabad IMD who has also issued a heat wave warning for select districts in the state on Wednesday.
The IMD had earlier predicted that the monsoon would arrive by June 12, however the occurrence a Low-Pressure Area over the Arabian sea developed into Cyclone Vayu, and has also caused a rise in temperature across the state.
“For the next two days, we can expect hot weather across Telangana. Once the intensity of cyclone reduces, we can expect a gradual progression of monsoon that will reduce mercury levels,” said YK Reddy, Director, Hyderabad-IMD to Times of India, “The monsoon will cover Telangana by June 19,” he added.
The weather monitoring site Skynet had predicted that by June 10 the scattered thunderstorm and rains witnessed by Telangana until then would decrease significantly and with only isolated rains. By June 11 a low-pressure area developed over the Arabian sea that turned into a cyclone. The moisture concentration and wind then converged around the cyclone leaving the south peninsula, that includes Telangana to become almost dry.
With severe heatwave conditions, with day temperatures are expected to go up to 44 degree Celsius in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahbubnagar and Warangal, says the IMD.
In Hyderabad, the maximum temperatures could go up to 42 degree Celsius in the next few days. The rise in temperature is also expected to be accompanied with gusty winds during evenings.
The IMD had forecasted that the state would receive 96 % rainfall his monsoon season that amounts to 717 mm of rainfall.
