In January, the city police had launched an app to enable the public to share information about traffic violations in the city. The Police-E-Eye app allows the users to take a picture of the violations and upload it, which can be viewed by the police officers. After thorough scrutiny, a challan will be generated in the offender’s name and sent to their addresses.

Speaking to TNM about the violations reported through the app, DC Perumal said that a total of 5,025 cases have been reported since the app was introduced. “We have collected a fine of Rs 27,64,700 as fine for the violations reported through the Police-E-Eye app till May,” he added.

The number of accidents in the city limits, however, has seen a decrease this year. In the first five months of 2019, 469 road accidents have been reported in Coimbatore, of which 59 accidents were fatal. The number during the corresponding period last year was 527 road accidents, of which 77 ended up being fatal.
