A class twelve student died while trying to tame a bull at an unauthorised Jallikattu event at Goodamalai in Salem, reports the New Indian Express. Seven others who suffered injuries have been admitted in the hospital.
Vimal alias Manikandan (17) died after reportedly receiving a chest injury at the event. About 200 bulls from neighbouring districts and towns such as Tiruchy, Kadambur and Thammampattu reportedly took part in the event, which had no permission from the district adminstration. Officials have, according to the report, initiated a probe in connection to the youth’s death. Goodamalai is a village where Jallikattu has been traditionally held.
Meanwhile in Abisekapuram in Tiruchy, 15 spectators were injured in a Jallikattu on Sunday. This is reportedly in addition to the 12 bull tamers who were injured.
Injuries have been commonplace in the state, following the ordinance that was promulgated to make holding Jallikattu events legal. Earlier this month, 73 persons and 4 bulls were injured in a single event in Alanganallur. In January, two bull tamers died and 129 others were reportedly injured in a jallikattu event at Rapoosal village, in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai district.
