National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 results on Wednesday. NEET 2019 was conducted by the NTA across the country on May 5, and on May 20 for Fani-affected candidates from Odisha and for candidates from Karnataka whose train got delayed on May 5.

Results can be checked on ntaneet.nic.in first and also on Medical Counselling Committee’s website mcc.nic.in. The cut-off to qualify for a medical seat in 2018 had decreased to 119 from 131 in 2017. It also decreased from 107 to 96 for students belonging to the OBC, SC and ST categories.

The exam is held for admission to medical and dental seats in colleges across India, barring the institutions established through an Act of Parliament, including JIPMER (Puducherry) and AIIMS (Delhi). After the results are declared, counselling sessions will be conducted for students’ admissions to the courses. This is the first time that NEET was administered by the National Testing Agency, which took over the responsibility from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

From Tamil Nadu, close to 1.2 lakh candidates took the test this year. NEET has been a controversial topic in Tamil Nadu. At least two students in TN — Anitha and Pradeepa —  took their own lives because of the exam, and it has led to several debates in the state. With the state having protested for it to be exempted from the entrance test time and again, Union Minister for the Ministry of Human Resources Department Prakash Javadekar had said, “At present, all states have accepted NEET. We cannot exempt just one state from the exam.”
