A 24-year-old woman, a victim of sexual harassment, was allegedly knocked down and beaten up by five car-borne men, who demanded she withdraw a case filed in December 2018, late Tuesday in Greater Noida.
She alleged that both her hands had been fractured and she had been admitted to a private hospital in Greater Noida as a result of the attack.
The woman, from Etah, lives with her brother in a rented accommodation in Sector Beta 2 in Greater Noida. According to her, on Tuesday night, she had gone to Rampur Market in Greater Noida on her scooty to buy some food. “Around 11pm, five men in a Hyundai Santro hit my scooty, making me fall on the road. The men, whom I recognised as Ankit Bhati, Vineet Bhati, Golu, Saurav and Natraj Bhooshan, all residents of Dadha village, then thrashed me with rods and told me to withdraw the case,” she said.
Local residents helped the woman reach Greater Noida’s Kailash Hospital, where she received treatment, the police said.
The woman alleged that in December 2018, Ankit and his uncle Vineet had gangraped her and snatched her mobile phone. The woman had filed an FIR at the Greater Noida police station after the incident. The woman also alleged that she is pregnant as a result of the sexual assault.
However, an police officer of the Greater Noida police station, who did not wish to be named, said the woman had filed a complaint of molestation and beating against Ankit and Vineet on December 4, 2018. “The woman was known to the two men. In her complaint, she said that she had some differences with Vineet. In December, the men had called her on the pretext of resolving the differences and thrashed her,” said the officer.
A case had been registered on under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 392 (robbery) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against Ankit and Vineet. The police had investigated the matter and filed a chargesheet in court.
Vineet Jaiswal, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar, said that police have not received any verbal or written complaint from the woman about the latest incident yet.
“We have received this information from media sources. We have directed the local police station to probe the matter,” he said.
