The controversy around remarks made by Malegaon blasts accused and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Bhopal, Pragya Singh Thakur, about slain IPS officer Hemant Karkare continued on Saturday.
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday weighed in on the issue. “Nobody should say anything that amounts to an insult to our martyrs,” Uddhav said, adding, however, that she has already apologised for her remarks.
Meanwhile, Sachin Sawant, spokesperson of Congress’s state unit, said, “Thakur insulted not just Karkare, but also the country, by calling him anti-national. Both she and the BJP are now trying to get rid of the controversy. But it won’t help. BJP and PM Modi should apologise for insulting the son of Maharashtra who laid down his life in a terror attack.”
Karkare, who was chief of the Maharashtra anti-terrorist squad (ATS), died in the line of duty during the 26/11 attacks. Thakur and BJP came under fire on Friday, after the former said that Karkare died because of her curse.
