Celebratory firing injures 1 in Rohini

A 12-year-old boy was critically injured after being shot in the head during a wedding procession in Rohini on Saturday night.

The child remained under observation till late on Saturday, even as the police made efforts to trace the accused.

The incident took place around 9 pm in Rithala area when the boy was standing in the balcony of his third-floor house to watch a wedding procession that was passing by on the street outside.

“One of the relatives from groom’s side opened fire during the procession. The bullet hit the child in his head. As he collapsed, bleeding profusely, his family members raised the alarm and the child was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital. From there he was referred to a private hospital where he is under treatment and critical,” said a senior police officer who is not authorised to speak to the media.

The hospital staff, on realising that the child has a gun shot injury, called up the police.

Senior police officers arrived at the spot and the suspect who had fired the gunshot was identified.

“Efforts to trace the man have been launched. A case of attempt to murder and arms act has been registered,” the police officer said.
