Minor dies after gang rape, 5 held

A tribal minor girl died allegedly after gang rape by members of a marriage party in a village of East Tundi block, around 45 kms from here, on Friday night.

Dhanbad superintendent of police (rural), Aman Kumar, said five accused had been apprehended and hunt for the other suspects was on. “The police have seized three cars and three bikes of the accused. Some of the accused are minors,” the SP said.

The deceased’s body has been sent for autopsy at Patliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH).

Police said the incident occurred between 9 pm to 10 pm on Friday. A marriage party had come from Jamtara district to the village close to the girl’s village. Some members of the marriage party had come to meet their relatives in girl’s village at night. Their relatives are neighbors of the girl. They lured the girl to nearby deserted place and committed the crime. All the accused were allegedly in drunken state.

After crime, the accused marriage party members fled the village.

The deceased’s father told media persons that she returned to her home limping and fainted just after narrating her ordeal. They tried to bring her back to senses but failed and before they could take her to hospital she succumbed to her injury.

“More than five persons were involved in the crime. We will take them to district headquarters for interrogation.

“Only after that we will be able to say the number of people involved in the crime,” said SP Aman Kumar, who reached the village on Saturday morning after receiving information about the crime.

East Tundi block development officer (BDO) Suresh Kumar Sinha met the family members of the girl and assured all assistance as per state government norms.
