New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a show cause notice to Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi over his ‘Modi ki sena (Modi’s army)’ remark, which he made during an election rally in Rampur.

The ECI has asked him to refrain from using references to security forces for political propaganda and to be careful in the future.

At the rally in Rampur earlier this month, Naqvi was heard saying, “Our missiles, our defence personnel annihilated the terrorists after storming their bastions. This is not an ordinary feat.”

Ab dikkat yeh hui ki Congress party, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party sab chilaane lage ki bhai yeh jo Modi ji ne ghus ghus kar, Modi ji ki sena ne ghus ghus kar ke aatankwaadiyo ko tabaah kiyaa uskaa saboot to dikhaa do‘ (But the problem is that the Congress, SP, BSP started demanding proof of the attack carried out by ‘Modiji ki sena’),” he added.

After the footage of him speaking at the rally went viral, Naqvi claimed, “I might have said ‘meri sena, aapki sena, har aadmi ki sena‘ (my Army, your army, everyone’s Army),” PTI reported.

Naqvi’s remark came just a day after the EC had issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for calling the Indian Army “Modi ki sena.”

On Monday, the EC banned Adityanath from taking part in election campaign for 48 hours.
