Stalin booked for defamatory speech against AIADMK Minister SP Velumani

A case has been filed on DMK leader MK Stalin for his allegedly defamatory speech against Municipal Administration Minister and AIADMK leader SP Velumani. Based on a complaint by AIADMK advocate T Ramachandran, an FIR has been registered under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 of IPC (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 125 of Representation of People Act( promoting enmity between classes in connection with election) by Coimbatore’s Thondamuthur police.

The DMK President who was speaking at an election rally in Coimbatore on Thursday when he levelled corruption allegations against SP Velumani.

A report in TOI states Stalin as saying, “Velumani tops the list of corrupt leaders in the state. We have collected enough evidence against him and we can prove his involvement in corruption. We won’t submit the evidence to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) now. After we come to power, DVAC will arrest Velumani. Our first task will be to send Velumani to jail.”

Stalin also heaped other damaging claims on the Minister going so far as to allege that SP Velumani is attempting to protect the accused of Pollachi sexual abuse case. He alleged that the CB-CID police were diluting the case to favour the ruling party. He also alleged that the minister was unethically allotting tenders worth Rs 100 crore to his own family members. 

Stalin had also campaigned for Pollachi parliamentary constituency DMK candidate K Shanmugasundaram at Kuniyamuthur. Speaking at the rally, he had said that apart from the elections for the Vellore Lok Sabha seat, attempts were being made to postpone the bye-poll in Gudiyattam and Ambur seats.

Meanwhile, Cybercrime wing of Central Crime Branch has registered a case against DMK’s Central Chennai parliamentary candidate Dayanidhi Maran for an alleged smear campaign against PMK parliamentary candidate Sam Paul.
