‘10 litres of brandy every month’: Tiruppur independent candidate’s election promise

An independent candidate from Tiruppur Lok Sabha constituency has promised a supply of 10 litres of pure, unadulterated brandy per month for each family if he gets elected to the Parliament.

While political parties across the spectrum are busy announcing their candidates and releasing election manifestos, independent candidates are trying hard to be tough contenders. In that list, an independent candidate from Tiruppur parliamentary constituency has listed provision of free alcohol for the people as one of his poll promises.

AM Sheik Davood hails from Anthiyur in Erode district. He filed his nomination papers on Saturday to contest in the upcoming polls from the Tiruppur constituency as an independent candidate. Speaking to reporters after filing the nomination papers in the Collectorate, Sheik Davood listed his poll promises.

“I will supply 10 litres of pure brandy, which people use as medicine, imported from Pondicherry to each person in a family every month,” he said. His other promises included provision of Rs 25,000 to every family each month, digging a canal from Mettur to Tiruppur via Anthiyur and Gobichettipalayam to bring drinking water to the district, government jobs to one person in each family, wedding assistance of 10 sovereigns of gold and Rs 10 lakh from his MP funds, and urging the government to not implement total prohibition in the state.
