Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday sharpened her attack at the Narendra Modi government asking it to stop blaming the Congress-led governments of the past to cover up its own failures.
“Their argument that ‘what did they do in 70 years’ has an expiry date. Now they (BJP) should tell what they have done in their five years during which they have been in power,” said Priyanka Gandhi, according to news agency ANI, dismissing the BJP’s allegation that the Congress-led governments in the past are responsible for the problems the country is facing today.
Priyanka Gandhi met party leaders in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi, where she told the party workers to work hard on the ground going into the Lok Sabha election. She said people are not “satisfied” with the Modi government and would vote against it in the upcoming polls.
She said, “No one is satisfied with the Modi government. People will change this government in 2019. The farmers, youths and employees all are not happy. Together, they will change the government.”
The Congress leader kicked-off a three-day party campaign, Ganga Yatra, for the Lok Sabha polls on Monday, when she took a boat from Sangam to Arail ghat in Prayagraj. The campaign will end in Varanasi. Uttar Pradesh votes in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections between April 11 and May 19.
As general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi has a daunting task of turning the fortunes of the Congress party in the state where its performance over the last several national polls has been underwhelming.
Priyanka Gandhi, speaking to reporters in Bhadohi, also rejected Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s claim that the state has progressed vastly in the last two years. She said, “Report card, promotions, all of it sounds good but there is nothing on ground. I am meeting people everyday. All the people are in distress.”
Earlier, Adityanath had blamed the Congress for the backwardness of Uttar Pradesh. He said, “The Congress ruled the state for the maximum time period after independence, and in return the party gave the state designation of a ‘BIMARU’ state.”
