Pakistani journalist likens Dalai Lama to Masood Azhar, gets trolled

A senior Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir on Wednesday stoked a controversy when he compared Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar to Nobel laureate the Dalai Lama.

Minutes after he put out a tweet saying, “It’s very easy to understand why China blocked resolution against Masood Azhar in UNSC? India sheltering an enemy of China since decades and his name is Dalai Lama”, Twitter erupted with criticism over his remark.

Hamid’s tweet came soon after China blocked a UNSC move to list the JeM chief as a terrorist.

Reacting to his tweet, one Twitter user Amrita Bhinder said, “Masood Azhar is a terrorist! Dalai Lama is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, just like Malala. PS: He was awarded Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his NONVIOLENT campaign over nearly 40 years to end China’s domination of his homeland. A mind bender for Pakistan?

Such was the outpouring over Mir’s tweet that the hashtag #DalaiLama went viral on the micro-blogging site with nearly 9,000 tweets.

What stupid logic is this! Dalai Lama is not a terrorist. And he was provided shelter from Chinese aggression (when the state itself terrorizes people) on humanitarian & religious grounds. It was a different world order then! Today both India & China are global economies. 1/3

You seem to be educated. You are comparing two extreme individuals. Dalai Lama A recipient of the Nobel PeacePrize in1989, Time magazine named him one of the “Children of Mahatma Gandhi” and his spiritual heir to nonviolence.
