Coulter-Nile has a swing but is beaten as Bumrah bowls another dot ball before the right-hander gets one next ball to midwicket.

Handscomb goes for the pull but gets a top edge and is caught by Dhoni on the leg side as Australia continue to sink.

What a turnaround from the Indian bowlers!

When Maxwell was dismissed, Australia were sitting in control with 37 needed from 39 balls with seven wickets still in hand but his wicket proved to be the turning point.

Bumrah ends his spell in style with the wicket of Coulter-Nile, who is completely done in by the quick yorker and is bowled for four.

Two runs and two wickets from the over as Bumrah finishes with wonderful figures of three for 16 in four overs.

Coulter-Nile is unable to beat the fielder in the covers and then punches the next back to the bowler on the bounce for two dot balls in a row.

He decides against taking the risk as he hits the fifth ball down to long-off for a single.

Handscomb comes down the track and lofts the last ball on the bounce to long-on to get five runs from the over.

Australia need 16 from 2 overs for victory.

Aus 106-5 (17 ovs) vs India 126-7 | Scorecard

Markande comes back into the attack as India put a fielder in slip. Peter Handscomb takes a single before Short is beaten by the googly. But the next ball is short and Short manages to slap it through the covers for a four.

Short then drives it powerfully down the ground for one before Handscomb is beaten by the googly as he gets the inside edge for two runs to fine leg.

Umesh comes back into the attack. India pick the wicket of Short, who is run out after a huge misunderstanding with Handscomb.

The right-hander had clipped Umesh to deep square leg and initially decided to come for the second run before making a late call to turn back. Short was already committed and could not make it back to the crease to be run out for 37.

Ashton Turner is unable to get a run off the remaining four deliveries of the over as India continue to build the pressure.

Krunal comes back and he strikes with the wicket of Turner, who attempts to paddle the spinner but misses and is bowled for a five-ball duck.

Four singles from the last four deliveries as Krunal ends with good figures of one for 17 in four overs.

Australia are 106 for five in 17 overs, needing 21 from three overs for victory.

No stopping Maxwell as he sweeps a leg side delivery from Chahal fine on the leg side for a four and repeats the shot next ball for two runs.

But against the run of play, Chahal strikes with the key wicket of Maxwell, who tries to loft a wide full delivery and is caught at long-off by Rahul after a quickfire 56 from 43 balls.

21:40  Maxwell blasts half-century; Australia in control:

Chahal comes back into the attack. He starts with a short wide delivery as the googly goes wrong and Short crashes it past point for a four. He then inside edges the next ball as he fails to read the leg-spinner and gets a single.

Maxwell takes an easy single next ball and Short also does the same two balls later to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Umesh comes back into the attack with India needing a few quick wickets to get back into the contest.

Four singles and a wide from the over as Maxwell races to his fifty in the over from just 40 balls.

Australia in complete control as they reach 83 for two in 13 overs, needing 44 from seven overs for victory.

21:28  Maxwell’s attack puts Australia in control:

Spin from both ends as Krunal Pandya comes into the attack from the other end, to bowl the seventh over.

He makes a tidy start as he concedes just three singles in his first over.

Debutant leg-spinner Mayank Markande from the other end. Three singles from five balls before Short hammers a short ball through the covers to end the over with a boundary to take Australia past the 50-run mark, in the eighth over.

Maxwell clips Pandya through midwicket for two runs and then blocks the next ball before taking a quick single to point despite the direct hit from Chahal.

A single to short brings up the 50-run stand for the third wicket. Another tidy over from Krunal, who concedes just five runs in his second over.

Maxwell continues to bat positively as he smashes a flighted delivery back over bowler Markande’s head for a six.

11 runs from the over as Australia reach 67 for two in 10 overs at the halfway mark, needing another 60 runs from as many deliveries for victory.

Umesh Yadav comes into the attack and Chahal is taken off after just one over.

Australia nearly lose another wicket as Short taps the first ball to mid-off and attempts a suicidal but Rishabh Pant misses the direct hit.

Maxwell makes his intent clear as he hits a length ball from Umesh over the long-off fence for a four.

He defends the next couple of deliveries before he shuffles across and flicks the fifth ball past short fine leg for a four. He then makes room and  lofts the last ball over mid-off for another boundary as Umesh goes for 13 runs in his first over.

India continue with Bumrah, as he bowls his third over in a row, as they keep looking for early wickets.

Short is nearly done in by the slower ball as he miscues it to mid-on as Umesh makes a good effort diving forward but the ball falls just short.

Short watchful at the start but makes most of some width as he drills Bumrah through the covers for a four.

Chahal comes back into the attack. He starts with a short ball as Maxwell pulls it over midwicket for a six and then hits the next ball in the same region for a four followed by three singles.

Australia have recovered to 41 for two in six overs, needing another 86 runs in 14 overs for victory at just over six per over.

21:01  Australia lose 2nd wicket after India post 126:

Aaron Finch’s troubles against the incoming deliveries continues. Bumrah bowls a quick full inswinger as Finch is struck right in front trying to play it on the leg side.

The ball is coming in and clipping the leg stump and the decision stays with umpire’s call as Finch is ruled out leg before wicket for a duck.

New batsman Glenn Maxwell is beaten first ball outside the off-stump and is beaten again two balls later.

Four dot balls in a row before Maxwell punches the last ball through the covers to get off the mark and release some pressure.

Jasprit Bumrah to open the bowling for India as he comes back into the Indian team after a long break.

He makes a good start with four dot balls in a row to D’Arcy Short before the left-hander flicks one off his pads through square leg for a four to get off the mark and then defends the last ball.

India in the hunt for early wickets as they give Yuzvendra Chahal the new ball.

Like Bumrah, he also starts off well with four dot balls in a row to Marcus Stoinis, who picks a single off the fifth ball to midwicket to get off the mark.

India claim the early wicket as Stoinis is run out off the last ball courtesy of a huge misunderstanding with Short. The left-hander had flicked the last ball to short fine leg as Stoinis came a long way down and was unable to make his crease to be run out for one.

KL Rahul blasted a quickfire half-century but Australia’s bowlers came up with a disciplined showing in the middle overs to restrict India to a below-par 126 for seven in their first T20 International.

Put into bat, Rahul, drafted back into the team, rallied India after the early dismissal of Rohi Sharma (5) as he slammed a quickfire 50 from 36 balls.

He put on 55 runs for the second wicket with captain Virat Kohli (24) before India lost their way with regular wickets in the middle overs.

Nathan Coulter-Nile took two wickets in a single over – dismissing Rahul and Dinesh Karthik (1) in quick succession to finish with 3/26 in his four overs.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni struggled to get the boundaries at the end, and finished unbeaten on 29 from 37 balls, having managed just one six.
