DMK working president and leader of opposition in assembly, M K Stalin, has sought a floor test to resolve the imbroglio on government formation amid claims and counterclaims by the two contenders for power from AIADMK – its general secretary V K Sasikala and chief minister O Panneerselvam.
Stalin, who called on the governor, C Vidyasagar Rao, on Friday late evening, told mediapersons later that he urged the installation of a stable and constitutionally valid government, at the earliest.
Stalin urged the governor to install a government and order a free and fair floor test as per the constitutional provisions. The government in Tamil Nadu was dysfunctional for the past many months, Stalin said adding that governance was suffering as a result. In a memorandum submitted to the governor, the leader of opposition said that there was a collapse of administrative machinery since the passing away of chief minister J Jayalalithaa and the inner party rivalries was affecting the lives of the people.
If allowed to continue like this, the situation may drift towards a dangerous destination, the leader of opposition said expressing the fear that it could lead to complete breakdown of administration.
Stalin also referred to the situation when chief minister O Panneerselvam claimed that his resignation was made under duress. He also referred to the reports that many MLAs were kept in confinement against their will and requested the governor to take all possible steps to prevent horse trading.
