‘Met Thirunavukkarasar to give Soundarya’s wedding invite’: Rajini quells speculation

When superstar Rajinikanth met with a few political leaders in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, it triggered waves of speculations on the purpose of the visit. Rajinikanth called on former President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) Su Thirunavukkarasar at his Anna Nagar residence in the presence of the Chief of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Thol Thirumavalavan to invite them for his daughter Soundarya’s wedding.

This meeting with the two political leaders gave rise to speculations about the actor’s political entry. However, both Rajinikanth and Thirunavukkarasar denied any political motive behind the meeting.

Speaking to the media, Rajinikanth said that since the alliance was fixed because of Thirunavukkarasar, the actor had come to give the first invitation to him. The actor also clarified that in the coming days, if he meets political leaders, it is only for inviting them to Soundarya’s wedding and not for any political purpose.

Thirunavukkarasar also affirmed Rajinikanth’s statement and added that the actor was his long-time friend. Thirunavukkarasar, however, also stated that the two did discuss the general political scene in the country.

Though rumours about Soundarya’s impending wedding to actor Vishagan Vanangamudi were circulating for quite some time, no official confirmation came from the family. However, on Monday, Soundarya herself tweeted her picture with the caption – ‘Bride Mode’, ‘One week to go’ and ‘Ved Vishagan Soundarya’.

It was only two days before this tweet that Latha Rajinikanth, Soundarya’s mother, had written to the Teynampet police, requesting security around their Poes Garden house on February 10 and 12, stating that they were expecting a heavy influx of guests during those days.

Soundarya, Rajinikanth’s younger daughter, was previously married to industrialist Ashwin Ramkumar. A film director and producer, she bankrolled her first movie, Goa in 2010, which was directed by Venkat Prabhu and starred Jai, Vaibhav, Pia and Premgi Amaran in lead roles.
