Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed the petition seeking a stay on Ilaiyaraaja 75, an event planned and organised by Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC). Justice Kalyana Sundaram who heard the petition dismissed it on grounds of insufficient proof. He also directed TFPC to submit financial records at the Annual General Body meeting that is to take place on March 3 this year.
The High Court was hearing a petition by producers JSK Satish and Radhakrishnan who were seeking a stay citing financial irregularities within the Producers Council. Ilaiyaraaja 75 is a tribute planned by the Tamil Film Producers’ Council and will take place on February 2 and 3 at Chennai’s YMCA grounds in Nandanam, celebrating 75 years of the legendary music composer.
Vishal, President of TFPC, while addressing the press, stated that artists from Budapest, Hungary have been invited to perform for the event. Day two will also have an exclusive music program by the legendary icon. It was recently announced that the event will be inaugurated by TN Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
A small group of producers have been rallying against Vishal and his administrative skills. The group allege that Vishal has not been transparent in his actions in addition to fund misappropriation.
A few days ago, a group of producers, headed by actor and politician S Ve Shekher, filed a complaint against actor Vishal for alleged fund misappropriation.
A complaint signed by around 15 producers has been handed over to the Commissioner of Police in Chennai. In the complaint, the producers claimed that Vishal had sent a letter to all TFPC members stating that he has spent Rs 8.75 crore so far on the upcoming Ilaiyaraaja 75 event.
Time and again allegations of fund misappropriation have been heaped against Vishal. TFPC, however, maintains that they have been working for the welfare of the council. The fund raised from the event has been planned for welfare schemes within the council.
Over the past one month, the Council has been inviting all the bigwigs in the industry including actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and music composer AR Rahman for attending the tribute function.
