Yuzvendra Chahal picked up six wickets to send Australia crashing for 230 in the series-deciding third and final ODI against India at MCG on Friday.

Chahal, recalled into the side in place of Kuldeep Yadav, justified his inclusion as he picked up six for 42, his career-best figures in ODIs.

Put into bat, Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Peter Handscomb the only batsman to go past the 50-run mark, as he stroked a fluent 58.

Usman Khawaja (34), Shaun Marsh (39) and Glenn Maxwel (26) got off to starts but none were able to carry on.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a brilliant spell with the new ball, taking two for 28 in eight overs, while Mohammed Shami took two for 47.

Shami to bowl the 49th over. Siddle defends the first ball before he takes one on the leg side.

Lastman Billy Stanlake is beaten first ball as it goes past the outside edge before Shami cleans him up next ball with a quick yorker.

Australia are bowled out for 230 in 48.4 overs.


11:46  Chahal claims 6th wkt; Australia 9 down: 

Kohli keeps juggling the pacers around as Shami is back into the attack. He starts with a slower ball which Zampa hits to sweeper cover for one.

He survives a run out chance two balls as Peter Siddle taps it straight to point and calls Zampa for an impossible and he is lucky Kohli misses the direct hit and they pick up an overthrow.

Siddle then steers a wide yorker from Shami fine on the off-side for a four and keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Chahal strikes another blow in his final over. Zampa goes for the big shot down the ground but ends up holing out to Shankar at long-on to perish for eight.

Chahal finishes with wonderful figures of six for 42 in 10 overs with Australia reduced to 229 for nine in 48 overs.


11:37  Chahal picks 5th wicket as Australia struggle: 

Australia finding it heard to deal with Chahal, who starts his ninth over with two dot balls before Zampa picks two runs through the off-side.

Zampa then hits it uppishly back past the bowler as Chahal dives to his right but fails to take the catch on his follow through.

However, he strikes a few deliveries later, as Handscomb is trapped plumb leg before wicket for 58. He goes on the backfoot trying to turn it on the leg side but misses the quicker delivery which goes straight on.

Handscomb takes the review but there is no chance as the ball is hitting the middle of middle stump.

Chahal continues his excellent showing with the ball, picking up his fifth wicket.


11:34  Chahal picks 4th wicket; Aus 7 down:

Chahal keeps chipping away at the wickets. He claims his fourth wicket as Richardson is caught by Jadhav at midwicket for 16.

Just two singles from the over as Chahal continues his impressive showing with the ball, having taken four for 37 in eight overs so far.

Bhuvneshwar comes back into the attack. Adam Zampa picks a single on the leg side before Handscomb flicks it through midwicket for two runs and then takes one to thirdman.

Zampa cuts a short ball past point for one before Handscomb pulls a short ball on the leg side but fails to get hold of it, as he picks three runs to deep midwicket.


11:24  Australia struggle with the bat; India on top: 

Bhuvneshwar continues to keep things tight as he starts with two dot balls to Handscomb, who then takes one on the leg side.

Richardson pulls a short ball to midwicket for a single and Handscomb keeps strike with one from the last ball.

Leg-spinner Chahal comes back into the attack. A couple of singles to Handscomb as he brings up his half-century, from 57 balls.

Shami comes back from the other end, as he takes over from Bhuvneshwar. He starts off well with two singles from four balls before Richardson pulls a short ball for a four despite the diving effort from substitute Rayudu. He drives the last ball through the covers for two runs as Australia go past 200, in the 43rd over.


11:13  Australia struggle with the bat; India on top: 

Jadeja comes back into the attack as he switches end. A single each to Handscomb and Jhye Richardson before the former gets a thick outside edge for a four past the slip.

Three more singles as Jadeja goes for nine in his ninth over.

Shami continues as two singles come from the first two balls before Handscomb clips it through the leg side for two runs and then takes one.

Shami pitches it up as Richardson drives through the covers for two runs.

Medium pacer Shankar comes back into the attack. Handscomb guides the first ball to thirdman for one followed by three dot balls to Richardson before he takes one to fine leg with another single from the last ball.

Bhuvneshwar comes back from the other end, as he takes over from Shami.

He continues his good form with the ball, starting with three dot balls before Handscomb takes one from the fourth ball.

Richardson is then beaten outside the off-stump before he defends the last ball.

Handscomb shuffles across his stumps but is beaten by Shankar, who appeals for leg before which is turned down. He then clips the medium pacer uppishly over midwicket for a four. The next ball is short as Handscomb pulls it to deep midwicket for two more runs.

Good job with the ball by Shankar, giving away just 23 runs in six overs, with Australia reaching 190 for six in 40 overs, with Handscomb on 46 and Richardson on six.


10:49  Maxwell out for 26; Australia 6 down:

Jadeja bowls another tidy over, giving away just four singles, not taking much time to send down his seven overs.

Handscomb gets a lifeline as he miscues the flick on the leg side as it goes high and Shankar at midwicket makes a valiant effort running back but fails to get to the ball.

The next ball is a half-tracker as Maxwell easily pulls it over midwicket for a four.

In the next over, Maxwell helps himself to another boundary through the same region as Jadeja drops short this time.

Handscomb chips Chahal uppishly over the fielder at midwicket for one. Chahal then gifts Maxwell a full toss as he smacks it over the leg side for a four, to race to 17 from 13 balls, with all three boundaries coming through midwicket off poor deliveries.

He drills the last ball through the covers for another four to continue his quickfire start.

Kohli brings back Shami and he nearly produces the wicket of Maxwell, who top edges the pull but it goes fine on the leg side for a four.

But he perishes attempting a similar shot as he top edges again with Bhuvneshwar completing a stunning catch, rushing in quickly from the fine leg boundary before he puts in a full length dive forward to complete the catch.

Maxwell perishes after a quickfire cameo of 26 from 19 balls, including five boundaries.


10:27  Chahal picks 3rd wicket; Aus 5 down:

Jadeja gets some sharp turn as Stoinis gets a thick outside edge which flies wide of the slips for three runs.

Chahal strikes again with the wicket of Stoinis who gets an edge and Rohit takes a sharp low one-handed catch to his right at slip.

Glenn Maxwell gets off the mark with a single to long-off and Handscomb defends the last ball.


10:22  Chahal’s double strike leaves Aus in a mess:

Handscomb clips Jadeja through midwicket for two runs before the spinner gets one to turn and bounce and beats the right-hander all ends up.

Handscomb then drives a wide half-volley through the covers for two runs before he blocks the last two balls.

Right-handers Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis watchfully pick four singles off Chahal.

Jadeja rushes through his fifth over, as Handscomb picks single and Stoinis defends the rest of the over.

In the next over, Stoinis slaps a full delivery from Chahal down the ground beating the dive from Jadeja at mid-on for a four followed by four dot balls.
