2nd ODI: Australia hammer India bowlers


12:16  Shami, Bhuvi, Siraj whacked all over the park:  

Bhuvi comes back into the attack and starts with a wide. He saw Maxwell trying to make room and bowled a slow wide one.

Maxwell then slaps the ball to deep backward point for a couple. Good running by Maxwell.

Next ball he bowls in the channel, good ball.

Again another slower one that Maxwell has totally missed.

Maxwell then gets a single to extra cover.

Length ball, gift for Maxwell. He just swings his arms, times it well and that is a six over mid-wicket.

Marsh then gets a couple down the ground off the last ball of the over.

Shami continues, full toss, yorker miscued, Maxwell reaches out and smashes over extra cover for a four.

Slower ball next, no run as Maxwell tries to chase it.

He then gets a single to backward square leg, good work by Siraj to deny the boundary.

Short ball and Marsh pulls the ball over mid-wicket for a six!

He then gets a single past point, another beautiful shot.

Maxwell ends the over with a dot on the leg side.

Shami has been clobbered for 13 runs.

Siraj continues, it’s short and a slower ball and Maxwell pulls it over square leg for a four.

After a dot, Maxwell has been wrapped on the pads, Siraj appeals, umpire says out, Maxwell takes the review. The replays show the ball is missing leg and Maxwell gets a life.

Wide ball next and Maxwell  chases it, reaches to it and slaps it past third man for a boundary.

Next ball, Maxwell is hit on the pads again, missing leg. One run  to Maxwell.

Last ball of the over, wide ball, and Marsh just creams it through covers for a four!

What a shot! 13 come off the over.

Kuldeep continues and he has been taken to the cleaners by Maxwell with 2 big sixes in the over as 16 runs come off it.

11:56  Maxwell-Marsh rally:  

Siraj brought back into the attack and Maxwell starts the over with a single to extra cover.

Marsh then plays the ball late to deep backward point for a single.

After a dot, he gets a single to mid-wicket.

Maxwell then squeezes out the yorker before Maxwell plays out a dot as 4 come off the over.

Kuldeep brought back into the attack and as the batsmen keep the scorecard moving, Marsh gets to the 3-figure mark.

He gets to his 17th ODI ton with a single to long-off.

9 come off the over in which Marsh got a boundary to get to 99.

Jadeja continues and he is bowling a good line to not allow Marsh any easy pickings. Marsh finally gets a single to the on side. 

Maxwell ends the over with a quick single to point.

Shami continues, Maxwell and Marsh take a single each.

Maxwell then plays a tennis shot to have the ball fly over Dhoni behind the stumps for a lucky boundary.

Maxwell then digs out the yorker for a single. Marsh gets a single before Maxwell plays out a dot to keep out another yorker as 8 come off it.

11:35  Shami dismisses Stoinis:  

Just when Australia were crusing along, Stoinis edges one through to have Australia five down. 

Jadeja continues and Marsh gets a single off the second ball of the over.

Maxwell gets off the mark with a single to cover.

After a dot, Marsh swings his arms and the ball goes over mid-wicket for a four.

A dot to end the over as 6 come off it.

Maxwell is the new man in and is welcomed with back-to-back bouncers.

Shami continues Marsh gets a single off the first all.

Stoinis then clobbers him for back-to-back boundaries to bring up the 50-run partnership.

Just when it looked like he was going to keep marching on, Stonis tries to pull the ball and gets the under edge as the ball carries through to Dhoni.

Stonis gone for 29 off 36.


11:25  Marsh-Stoinis rotate strike at will:  

Jadeja comes back and the batsmen look comfortable. Marsh gets a four as he cuts the ball past backward point. The batsmen rotate the strike as 8 come off the over.

Bhuvi continues and gives five in the over.

Kuldeep continues and the runs are flowing as 9 runs come off the over, including a superb boundary by Marsh.

Bhuvi comes back into the attack and gives four in the over.

11:11  They keep the scoreboard moving:  

Kuldeep brought back into the attack, Marsh cuts well but good fielding by Jadeja keeps it down to just a single.

The batsmen keep the scorecard ticking as Stoinis plays the ball down to fine leg for a couple as seven come off the over.

Siraj continues and after a dot, he times the ball to perfection for a boundary through square leg.

He then takes a single to mid-on.

Marsh then gets a single before Stoinis plays out two dots as 6 runs come off the over.

Jadeja continues and the batsmen keep the runs coming as five come off it.

Siraj continues, bowls an improved over to give just two off it.

10:55  Australia now four down:  

Stoinis is the new man in and plays out 4 dots and that is a wicket-maiden!

Jadeja continues and after a dot, he gets the big wicket of Handscomb.

Jadeja invites the batsman to take a chance on his delivery, Handscomb tries to sweep, misses it completely and is stumped by Dhoni.

Even as umpires go up to the third umpire, Handsomb walks off after a brisk 20 off 22 balls.

Siraj is brought back into the attack and he is no better in the second spell as 9 runs come off him.

Marsh gets a boundary off the last ball of the over as the fifty partnership comes on.

Jadeja continues and the batsmen keep the scorecard ticking as they pick the singles and two with ease and five runs come off the over.

Shami continues and gives four in the over. Half-volley and Marsh pulls it away for a boundary to deep mid-wicket.

10:36  

Marsh and Handscomb have kept the scorecard ticking after the dismissal of Khawaja to keep the pressure off themselves. 

Jadeja continues and after the batsmen take a single each, Marsh plays the ball straight down the ground for a four.

He then gets a single off the next ball to record his 14th ODI half-century. That is back-to-back fifties for the batter.

Dot to end the over as 7 come off it.

Shami comes back into the attack and Marsh starts with a single.

After a dot, Handscomb pulls the ball for a couple behind square. Karthik does well to keep it down to just two.

The batsmen take a single each as 5 come off the over.

Jadeja continues, short ball and Marsh pulls it down to mid-wicket for a four.

A dot later, he pulls again, but this time gets only a single to long-on.

Handscomb then get a couple each as 7 come off the over.

Kuldeep continues and gives away nine runs as Handscomb and Marsh rotating the strike well.

10:18  Australia lose 3rd wicket:  

India have made another breakthrough after some magical fielding by Jadeja.

Jadeja continues and Marsh starts the over with a single.

Handscomb gets off the mark with a couple.

A dot later, Handsomb gets a single to the off side.

Marsh then cuts the ball and is fortunate as the ball falls short of the fielder at backward point.

Marsh ends with a single to long-on.

Marsh gets a single after a dot as Handscomb is the new man in.

A dot to end the over as 2 runs and the big wicket of Khawaja comes off it.

Spin from both ends now as Kuldeep continues, short and wide and Marsh cuts it for a single.

After a dot, Khawaja cuts the ball and scampers for a single, Jadeja gets a direct hit and finds Khawaja short off the crease as he goes for 21 off 23.

Jadeja comes into the attack now and the Aussie batsmen are milking him for runs as 4 come off the over, including a wide.

Kuldeep continues and after a dot, Marsh gets a couple past slips to bring up the 50-run partnership.

Two balls later, Marsh gets a single to long-off.

Khawaja then gets lucky as he edges the ball but it deflects past Dhoni’s glove.

Just 3 come off the over.

After drinks, Siraj continues and bangs in a short one, Khawaja pulls it for a single.

Marsh then gets a single to the off side.

After a wide, Khawaja gets a single to mid-wicket.

Next ball is wide, Marsh slashes at it, one-handed and that is a four through cover point.

Marsh then takes a single to third man before Khawaja punishes the short ball and pulls it down to square leg for a boundary as 13 come off the over.

Kuldeep continues and gives 4 in the over.

09:55  Debutant Siraj hammered:  

Siraj continues and begins with a wide.

After a dot, Khawaja gets a single to square leg.

Short ball, wide and Marsh pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary.

A dot ball later, Marsh gets a single to third man.

Khawaja then gets boundary behind square. A beautiful shot to end the over as 11 come off it.

Kuldeep continues.

He bowls short and wide and allows Marsh a single to the off side.

Khawaja then gets a single down the ground.

After a couple of dots, Marsh comes down the ground and whips the ball to square leg for a single.

Khawaja then takes a single to end the over as 4 come off it.

Siraj continues and now is coming over the wicket.

He has come back well as Marsh gets a single to the on side after 3 dot balls.

Khawaja plays out two dots as only one comes off the over.

Kuldeep is brought into the attack in the 2nd Powerplay and he gives away 3 runs.


09:38  Bhuvi, Shami make early inroads:  

Debutant Mo Siraj comes into the attack and the batsmen are finding the gaps now.

First ball goes for 2 leg byes.

Siraj then bowls a wide on the leg side before Khawaja gets a boundary through square leg off his pads. 

Khawaja then takes a single as he tickles it down to fine leg.

The bowler now comes around the wicket, after 2 dots, Marsh gets a 3 down to deep mid-wicket.

Bhuvi continues and after 3 dot balls, gets off the mark with a single.

Marsh then plays a forward defence for a dot.

A dot to end the over as just one run comes off it.

Shaun Marsh comes in at No 4 and plays out two dots.

Khawaja is the new man in Shami continues.

Carey starts the over with a couple.

After a dot, he gets a boundary through the off side, the first for Australia.

Shami strikes now!

Short ball angling away, Carey miscues the pull and hands Dhawan a catch as Australia.

09:23  Finch gone for 6:  

Bhuvi continues, he kept the batsmen quite. They’ve just got the 2 singles in the over.

Bhuvi strikes!

Last ball of the over, fuller delivery, angled back in and Finch tries to go big only to chop it on to his stumps! His painful stay at the crease ends.

Bhuvi and Shami have started well here, keeping the pressure on the Aussie openers, not allowing them to score freely.

Australia still haven’t scored a boundary inside the Powerplay.

Shami continues and he is mixing his deliveries here.

Bowling a lot straight and that is a dot.

Carey then times the ball well but Karthik dives at cover to stop the ball from running to the boundary and keep it down to one.

After a dOT, Finch plays the ball on the up to the covers and gets three runs.

4 come off the over.

Bhuvi continues and Carey gets a single to square leg.

After a dot, Finch gets a single to fine leg.

Carey then tucks the ball for a singlet to square leg.

After a dot, Finch lets one go as 3 come off the over.

Shami continues and Finch gets a single off the second ball.

He then bowls a beauty to Carey who is beaten!

Carey then just taps the ball to mid-off and hares down the pitch for a single.

Finch then plays out two dots as just 2 come off the over.

09:03  Aus win toss, elect to bat:  

Bhuvi continues and starts with a wide. 

Next ball hits Carey on the pads but its going down leg.

Bhuvi then bowls it away as Carey chases it.

Same ball next, Carey lets it go.

Carey defends the ball next.

Another dot as Carey leaves.

Dot to end the over as just one comes off it.

Shami opens the bowling at the other end.

After  a dot, a straightish ball, Carey helps it on its way to a boundary through square leg.

He then gets a single to third man.

Finch getting caught on the crease as the ball comes in.

Finch then chases the ball outside off, before leaving the last ball of the over.

Five come off it.

Alex Carey and Aaron Finch open the batting for India while Bhuvneshwar opens the bowling for India.

Bhuvi starts a little on the leg stump and Carey gets off the mark with a single to fine leg.

Next ball moves in., Finch shuffles across and gets a single, leg byes. 

After three dots, Carey gets the inside edge, the ball goes to square leg and that is a single to end the over.

08:27  India’s Siraj to make his ODI debut :  

Australia have won the toss and elected to bat first in the 2nd ODI at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday.

Siraj makes his India debut and comes in place of Khaleel Ahmed.

Australia go unchanged into the match.
